Procida tour guide

The island of Procida has volcanic origin, it emerged in the Gulf of Naples several thousand years ago

It is one of the Flegrean Islands together with Ischia, Nisida and the islet of Vivara. Procida is part of the Marine Reserve Kingdom of Neptune. Book with us a boat tour to Procida on one of our yacht.

Procida

What to see in Procida

The municipality of Procida occupies the entire surface of the island and is divided into nine districts: Terra Murata, Corricella, Sent’cò (Marina Grande), San Leonardo, Santissima Annunziata, Sant’Antonio, Sant’Antuòno, Chiaiolella and Semmarezio.

The oldest heart of the island is Terra Murata, a fortified hamlet dominated by Palazzo D’Avalos and the abbey of San Michele, which overlooks the marina of Corricella, the fishing village, the most iconic image of Procida. The fishermen’s houses are one of the most characteristic features of the island with their “popular” architectural style made of arches, “donkey” stairs, terraces, ribbed and barrel vaults.

Another characteristic feature is the color. The facades of the houses are all in different pastel colors to create a colorful chromatic effect. There are many churches on the island… almost all of the sixteenth century … small and large: Santa Maria della Pietà, San Leonardo, Sant’Antonio Abate, the Annunziata, San Rocco or the Abbey of San Michele to name just a few.

There are also many noble palaces and villas. But the poorer buildings are certainly more intriguing, such as Casale Vascello, a set of small fishermen’s houses huddled together to form a defensive (and very colorful) wall full of arches, stairs and balconies. Or like the Casa di Graziella Museum, a museum of 19th and 20th century island customs and traditions.

But Procida is also nature and sea. The beautiful beaches: Ciraccio, Chiaiolella, Chiaia or the romantic Pozzo Vecchio where Massimo Troisi shot some scenes of Il Postino. The islet of Vivara, connected to Procida by a bridge, is a nature reserve where you can admire Mediterranean bush and local fauna. If you love diving, Vivara is the ideal place.
